Study Finds Generative AI Causing 13% Decline In Jobs For Young Workers

Stanford University researchers released a study on Tuesday showing that generative AI adoption is disproportionately impacting entry-level American workers, according to CNBC. The report, based on millions of payroll records from ADP, found that employment for workers aged 22 to 25 in AI-exposed fields like customer service, accounting, and software development declined 13% since 2022. Older workers in the same sectors and workers of all ages in less-exposed roles, such as nursing aides, have seen employment stability or growth. The researchers said young workers are more vulnerable because AI can replace codified knowledge from formal education, while experience-based skills are harder to automate. The study, not yet peer-reviewed, adds to growing concerns that AI will reshape the labor market unevenly.
